Our Classes

Placement in all dance classes is based on combination of factors including dancer age, years of experience, technique, and teacher assessment. For most styles, we offer classes that cover a variety of skill levels and often invite special guest instructors to host optional drop-in sessions. Please note that student enrollment in pointe class requires instructor approval.

Ballet

Suggested for dancers 3 and older.

Our ballet classes are structured to provide students with a comprehensive education in classical ballet, focusing on developing a strong foundation in technique, artistry, and physical fitness. The progression in ballet classes are structured with students moving from beginner levels to more advanced classes as they gain proficiency and experience. Continuous practice and dedication are key to mastering the art of ballet.

We also offer an introduction to ballet class that we recommend for dancers between the ages 3–6.

Pointe

Suggested for dancers 12 and older.

Pointe is an advanced and specialized form of ballet training for dancers that meet prerequisites. Students must be turning 12 years old to be considered for pointe and have both a strong ballet technique and work ethic. Eligible students must be approved by the instructor and pass a pointe test administered by JDA staff in order to be placed in a pointe class.

Tap

Suggested for dancers 3 and older.

Tap is a style that emphasizes rhythm and percussion created by the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor. In our tap classes, students will learn the fundamentals of tapping while also enhancing their musicality and timing. The structure and curriculum may vary depending on the instructor, but the core elements of rhythm, technique and choreography are included in all.

We also offer an introduction to tap class that we recommend for dancers between the ages 3–6.

Jazz

Suggested for dancers 5 and older.

Jazz is a popular form of dance that combines elements of various styles with a focus on rhythm, dynamics, and style. Dancers will explore different styles from classic Broadway and Fosse to contemporary and commercial jazz while learning how to adapt their movement to suit the style of each piece. Our classes cater to dancers of different levels, from beginners to advanced students, curriculum may vary depending on the instructor.

Contemporary

Suggested for dancers 6 and older.

Contemporary is a dynamic and expressive form of dance that draws inspiration from a variety of styles including ballet, modern, jazz, and even some elements of hip hop. Our contemporary classes encourage individuality and self-expression while also focusing on alignment, balance, movement quality, fluidity, and emotion. Our classes cater to dancers of different levels, from beginners to advanced students, curriculum may vary depending on the instructor.

Musical Theatre

Suggested for dancers 5 and older.

Our musical theatre classes combine elements of broadway, music performance, and acting. Musical theatre is about storytelling, and dancers will receive guidance on how to convey emotion, character, and narrative depth through movement and facial expressions. Our classes cater to dancers of different levels, from beginners to advanced students, curriculum may vary depending on the instructor.

Hip Hop

Suggested for dancers 5 and older.

Hip hop is an energetic and dynamic form of dance that draws inspiration from urban and street styles that emphasizes rhythm and creativity. In a hip hop class you can expect to learn a wide range of movements, techniques, and styles. Our classes cater to dancers of different levels, from beginners to advanced students, curriculum may vary depending on the instructor.

Acro

Suggested for dancers 3 and older.

Our acro classes combine classical dance technique with the precision and athleticism of the acrobatic arts. Dancers learn how to seamlessly fuse acrobatic movements with distinctive choreography, integrating their performances with elements of musicality, line, and extension within the context of dance. Our classes cater to dancers of different levels, from beginners to advanced students, curriculum may vary depending on the instructor but safety is paramount in all classes with an emphasis on proper technique, spotting, and safe progressions to prevent injury.

We also offer a pre-school acro class for our littlest dancers.

Creative Movement

Suggested for dancers between 2–4 years old.

Creative movement class focuses on the dynamics of movement (fast, slow, high, low, etc.). Dancers work on becoming familiar with and/or mastering skills including standing in line, taking turns, matching the teacher, remembering their spot, recognizing themselves in the mirror, hops, skips, gallops, and jumping over objects.  Our creative movement classes also help introduce students to the structure of a typical dance class with stretching, down the floor, and center floor work sections.

Leaps and Turns

Suggested for dancers 5 and older.

Elevate your dance skills with our specialized leaps and turns class, designed to build the essential foundations for success in all your dance disciplines. This class focuses on technique, balance, and agility, helping you master the art of graceful leaps and seamless turns. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer, this class will unlock the key to adding dynamic and fluid movements to your repertoire.

*This class is required for JDA Company Team dancers.

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT)

Suggested for dancers 5 and older.

PBT is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels.

Conditioning

Suggested for dancers 5 and older.

Our specialized conditioning class helps dancers elevate their performance and is tailored to help dancers enhance skills and safeguard against injuries. Our program is designed to target key muscle groups, improve flexibility, and boost overall strength, ensuring dancers are primed to shine in their dance classes while maintaining peak physical well-being.

Hula

Suggested for dancers 5 and older.

Our hula class introduces dancers to the art of the Hawaiian hula. Dancers immerse themselves in the graceful and rhythmic movements of hula, learning the grace of traditional hula, the energy of modern hula 'auana, and the storytelling art of kahiko, creating a dynamic and captivating dance experience for all skill levels.

Adult

Suggested for dancers 18 and older.

Our adult classes are a fun way to get back into dance or start something new, all skill levels are welcome! We offer a weekly jazz and tap class, plus pop-up sessions in various styles throughout the year.

Therapeutic

Suggested for dancers 12 and older.

Our therapeutic class is for everyone! This class is for EVERYONE, we encourage anyone 12 years and older to join us. You do not have to take any other dance classes to join. Both disabled and non disabled individuals are welcome and no dance experience at all is necessary. All of our classes are inclusive, and we also offer this additional class for anyone who would like an individualized pace, fellowship and a smaller group.
